Calling all KatyCats:Katy Perryis back with new music — and a huge announcement. At midnight on March 5, Perry's new single "Never Worn White"dropped,along with a music video. For the most part, it's a dreamy visual to accompany such a heartfelt ballad that's clearly about her fiancé Orlando Bloom. Throughout the video, Perry dons aMidsommar-esque flower crown and dress, as well as an angelic white gown with clouds floating behind her.
But in the video's final 25 seconds, there's a major shock...Perry cradles a baby bump. No, this doesn't just seem to be an artistic decision. According toE! News, in an Instagram Live following the release of the video, Perry confirmed the pregnancy news, telling fans, "There's a lot that will be happening this summer. Not only will I be giving birth literally, but also figuratively to something you guys have been waiting for. So let's just call it a double whammy. It's a two-for." A new album, perhaps?
Perry also expressed joy about becoming a mom. "I am excited. We're excited and happy and it's probably the longest secret I've ever had to keep," she said, per E! News. "And I like to tell you guys everything, but I knew I would tell you in the best way, which is through a piece of music because that's... I guess that's how I speak to you."
So let's unpack this exciting news a little more, shall we?
Katy Perry's "Never Worn White" is obviously about marrying Orlando Bloom
In addition to announcing her pregnancy, Katy Perry uses "Never Worn White" to express her love for Orlando Bloom. She also shares her fear surrounding their upcoming big day. According toPage Six, the couple is set to tie the knot this June, ideally in Japan. (However, the publication reports that increasing concern over coronavirusmay result in a change of plans.)
Perry's new lyrics acknowledge she's never had a love quite like this:"I've stood on the edge of love / But never took the leap / And you took my armor off / Did it delicately / And I let my guard down / To show you what's underneath."She also references Bloom's proposal, singing, "You asked the question / I said yes, but I'm scared / 'Cause I've never worn white / But I wanna get it right."
Despite any nerves, the song makes clear she's ready to say "Ido."Perry knows their relationship will last as she sings, "Now let's dance with each other / Mixing all of our colors / It's so easy to surrender / When you finally find forever."
But while the song title strongly implies she's never worn a wedding dress before, fans know that's not true. There's another marriage being left out of the conversation, partly on a technicality.
Katy Perry's ex-husband Russell Brand thinks she's 'lovely'

As fans will recall, Katy Perry and ex-husband Russell Brand got married back in October 2010. They stayed together for 14 months, before filing for divorce in December 2011. According toTMZ, Brand cited "irreconcilable differences" and released a statement, which read, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends." The split was hard on Perry, who later confessed to Vogue India (viaNBC News), "I became depressed and I did not want to get out of bed."
The title of Perry's new single is still accurate, by the way. When she and Brand tied the knot in India, the singer wore a dove-gray — not white — gown designed by Elie Saab Haute Couture. PerSheKnows, the dress was a "floor-length stunner boasted sleeves and small embellishments."
Ahead of Perry's new song drop, Brand performed a comedy show in Australia on March 3. PerUs Weekly's source, "He was taking questions from the audience, and someone asked him about love. Then, another person called out Katy's name and Russell said she is a 'lovely human being' but wouldn't say more." That's certainly much kinder than some of the things Brand said about his ex in the past...
Katy Perry found her happily-ever-after with Orlando Bloom

During their three-year relationship, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom broke up and got back togetherso many times, it was near-impossible to keep track. However, they solidified their relationship status in February 2019 when they got engaged. Bloom popped the question on Valentine's Day while aboard a helicopter, according toHarper's Bazaar UK.
Perry has been open about how Bloom helped her heal and rebuild her life post-divorce. She toldVogue Indiain January 2020 (viaNBC News), "Orlando is like a sage. When we first met, he said we would pull the poison out of each other. I've never had a partner who was willing to go on an emotional and spiritual journey like Orlando."
And now, they're starting a family together. Bloom already has a 9-year-old son Flynn with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, while this will be Perry's first child. She sings in "Never Worn White," "See us in 60 years with a full family tree / Give my blood, sweat, and tears to reach our destiny."In other words, this likely won't be their only child together, but it's happy news nevertheless. Congrats to these two!
