Area Students To Take Part In Teen-Maze

Coming up next month, 1,600 10th-graders from five area school systems — Catoosa, Walker, Dade, Chattooga and Chickamauga — will gather at the Colonnade in Ringgold for the 11th annual Teen Maze. It’s all part of a project coordinated by are Family Connection organizations, including Chattooga Family Connection and director Maisha Ludy.

In a groundbreaking move set to transform digital connectivity in Chattooga County,Kinetic has unveiled a public-private partnership that will deliver high-speed fiber internet to around 3,400 homes, businesses, and schools at $10.3 million, has been made possible through collaboration with Kinetic, a prominent broadband provider. The Internet project aims to bridge the digital divide by offering eligible residents access to reliable, ultrafast fiber internet.

Trion Council Called Meeting This Thursday

Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas says that the Trion Town Council will have a called meeting this Thursday, August 15th. The purpose of the called meeting is to discuss bids for the construction of a pole barn for the Town of Trion Public Works Department. The meeting will get underway at 6 PM in the town hall conference room and the public is invited to attend.

Georgia gas prices dropped at the pumps compared to a week ago. Georgians are paying an average price of $3.23per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was5cents lessthan a week ago,16 cents less than a month ago, and 41 cents less than this time last year.It costs drivers an average price of$48.45to fill a15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are paying almost$3.00 lessto fill up at the pump compared to a month ago.

Summerville City Council Turns Down Property Tax / Names Winters As Finalist For City Manager

The Summerville City Council held their monthly meeting for August on Monday evening and named former Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters as the finalist for the city manager position. Winters was one of three finalists for the position. Current City Manager Andrea Surratt had served as city manager for eighteen months when she announced her resignation in May of this year. In other action, the Summerville City Council turned down a proposal that would have allowed Mayor Harry Harvey to begin the process of implementing a city property tax. WZQZ will have more details on Monday night’s meeting in upcoming newscasts.
